Evaluation of Wind Speed Potential Using Correlation Coefficient Model in Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia

Medan is the capital city of North Sumatra Province, consisting various tribes and a dense population that requires large amount electrical power. Energy demand continues to increase along with business growth, so additional energy sources are needed; one which wind. An evaluation potential wind needed determine feasability its use as an environmentally-friendly, renewable source without emissions.This paper aims evaluate speed in using correlation coefficient (R2) model. The four application models proposed for probability density function used Normal Distribution, Lognormal, Weibull 2-parameters 3-parameters. analysis results show all potentially feasible options can be Medan. these use, ranked from most least, 3-parameter Model, followed by Distribution Weibull2-parameter.
